Kids Camp in Denver

Each year we are refining the ways to better make use of VBS. Here are some ideas that worked well...

share:
Lay it all out on the table with the group what the current situation is and what you need.

network:
Even if you feel you have nothing to contribute, you can point out a resource that worked for you.

don't assume:
there is no shame, obligation, or neediness in a fact finding mission, which includes cost negotiation.

Several years ago we had a group of (unsupported) moms who organized around VBS where each mom would take a 4hr pto on alternate days to pick up 6 kids from VBS* until the moms got off work to pick up their kids. Subdivision and apartment swimming pools were utilized. All had a good time, saved a lot of money, and formed a support network that transcended church and community.

* VBS was extended over a 2 week period with several participating churches. Would you rather have a latchkey kid or a child with social skills?

Share your stories and struggles, and make new friends at the Single Parents’ group. The group meets for Bible study and community on Mondays at 6:00 pm, here at SHV. Childcare is available; contact Rich@Quintanilla.us for details.
