free concerts

Hello mommas and kiddos.

I am humbled by the few little things I can contribute to distract from everyday life. Here is something you might enjoy while the little darlings are out of School....

Concerts in the Park series announces artists, invites community

7/20/2007
Parker’s annual Concerts in the Park series continues this year with free music and free ice cream every Sunday in August from 1 to 3 p.m. in O’Brien Park. This family-friendly concert series is organized through the Town of Parker Cultural Commission and features a different Colorado band each week. Concertgoers enjoy free ice cream during the shows courtesy of Parker Water and Sanitation. Pack a picnic to enjoy under O’Brien’s huge shade trees, and let Parker Water supply dessert!

The 2007 series kicks off Aug. 5 with the Denver Municipal Band’s 17-piece jazz ensemble. The Denver Municipal Band was founded in the late 1860s and is the oldest professional concert band in the United States. They have performed free summer outdoor concerts throughout the Denver Metro region for over a century.

Aug. 12, O’Brien Park will be filled with the sound of steel guitars and heartbreak when Mario and the Durango band take the stage. From Merle Haggard to Kenny Chesney to their own originals, this five piece band will get you moving!

Week three of the concert series, Aug. 19, features Beatle tribute band The Fables. Enjoy an afternoon playing Beatles Trivia and learning a little about the songs that made them famous. “Imagine” dancing and singing in the park to this great group!

On Aug. 26, Kantankerous delivers its own brand of classic bluegrass and good-timin’ mountain music with a repertoire stretching from Bill Monroe to Oh Brother, Where Art Thou. The group features close vocal harmonies and cookin’ instrumental solos that spotlight traditional fiddle tunes and hard driving banjo breakdowns, mixed with heartfelt ballads and glorious gospel arrangements.

Have some fun!
