my my my....how much more provocative can it get? Mothers Day is this Sunday. A tribute to our everyday heroes is as individual as our perception of our mothers. One thing is constant, we have only one woman who is our mother, we have her DNA, she did the best she could with what she had. (reflect on it or get to know her better)
One of our volunteers was adopted into a loving family. She did not bond with her adoptive mother, she opted out of having children and recently got re-united with her birth mother in hopes to resolve her issues. The silver lining: appreciation for the woman who stepped into the gap.
On the other spectrum we have Martha Stewarts daughter Alexis who wrote a tell all book about her mother dearest in which the biggest offense was that Martha sat on the toilet without closing the door. Let's put this in perspective. Silver lining: boo hoo, you go domestic goddess.
At some xyz-anon meetings there was a period where mothers were bashed by people who did not want to take responsibility for their own bad choices. The silver lining: Being a victim is a choice.
I was a free-range mother who did not have the privilege of a responsible male to co-parent. My mission was to give my children autonomy in problem solving skills. We should have gotten an award for the never ending opportunities we had. There were times when I had to hold my breath and urge to enable but by the Grace of God and pure exhaustion. The silver lining: critical thinking, absence of entitlement mentality, healthy boundaries, and delayed gratification.
The link below resonates what Mothers Day means. We RESPECT all mothers out there. We do not judge, however, we pray that you too get to experience the good life when forgiveness is embraced.
