The Delores project
The Delores project has been one of our favorite women shelters to support over the years. If you have run out of couches to sleep on, this may be an option for a cold night.
You might ask, what exactly is The Delores Project? TDP is a overnight shelter that provides services to unaccompanied adult women who are homeless and have limited resources. "Single women without children are often overlooked as a segment of the homeless population, yet according to the Metro Denver Homeless Initiative's 2009 Point-In-Time study 1,606 single women are homeless on any given night in Denver."

OMG! one year someone was donating to Call Mom fake trees(and ornaments) for families who could not afford one. They went like hot cakes. If you have a tree dead or alive, please put it on craigslist under "free", I assure you it will go to a deserving family.
We also used to collect and distribute coats that were unclaimed in lost and found at various schools. Now we refer to several non profits that will accept requests and donations:

The reality of treading water
The resource referral we are offering
here at “Call Mom” is a small gesture to reach out to the
families that fell between the cracks. With several kids attached to
their back they are sacrificially treading water, hoping to bring
their kids to safety somehow.
Coping to survive sets many up to
escape. When the method of escape becomes a deeper pit, it is the end
of the rope. That is the point when we at last (hopefully) get the
call for “a neighbor”, “a lady where I work”.
When they finally make the call, they
are either professional panhandlers, greedy, or making a last ditch
effort to do or die in order to safe their precious blessings/kids. I
personally love to get that call. Been there, done it, done it twice. We
don't judge. We listen, have a plan, stand with you, and see you
through if you are willing. Nothing surprises us any more, however,
now we know what to do and where you can get the help that can pull
you through.
“The matchbox girl” book is not
just a story from times past. Those ladies sit in the pews of your
church, work in the cube next to yours, sit next to you at a school
functions. They appear invisible because YOU don't go to the food
bank, thrift store, the library (to use the computer) or to their
home where they share a can of soup between the three or four of
them, keep heat to a minimum in the winter and strategically pay
bills to avoid late charges and over drafts that can wipe them out.
When they don't ask for help any longer it is because they have been
lectured, humiliated, used, judged and rejected so many times that
they are hanging on to the shred of dignity that is left. There goes
your “pride” verdict.
This web site is the tip of a huge
iceberg. I encourage all readers this season to have the compassion
to see with the heart.

A Special Evening of Celebration
Come join us this Thursday, Dec. 12th, at 6:00 p.m. for a delicious chicken dinner and yummy holiday sweets! This is a great time to connect with other moms and their children.
After dinner, you can browse through items at Treasure Night - a type of mini garage sale. Bring items that you no loner want or use and then look for your own treasure to take with you. You don't need to bring treasures in order to take treasures.
The Greenhouse at 7:00 is your time to get a break from the kiddos and to be encouraged and inspired. You will meet some other amazing women, as well.

Homes for our Troops is a national non-profit, non-partisan organization that assists severely injured Veterans by helping to build specially adapted homes so that these Veterans may live independently. These special homes are then given to these Veterans at NO COST!
Home for our Troops is building two homes very close to Tagawa Gardens!
In Parker, for Sergeant Gabriel Martinez, who lost both his legs in a landmine accident. He returned home to his wife Kayla and family and a new home will be built for them. "Having a specially adapted home will lift the burden of worry and discomfort by bringing safety and convenience to my daily life and help us feel at home. The support and hard work of so many people so generously offering their time and donations is a comfort and a blessing, letting us know that others truly care."
In Elizabeth, for Sergeant Matt Parker, who also lost both his legs in an IED blast in Iraq. After more than a dozen surgeries he is returning home to work on his MBA and a new home built for his by Homes for Our Troops. “This home will give me back the freedom to move around my own home without needing to confront any obstacles, such as narrow doorways or stairs. It will provide me and my family with a place to call home… a place to make memories… a place for our future.”
How can you help?
Tagawa Gardens has partnered with Homes for our Troops to collect funds earmarked for Sergeants Martinez and Parker.
For each donation given, Tagawa Gardens will give a donation of $5 to Homes for our Troops.

If you are a family who is able to pay it forward, this may be for you.
The Travis County Sheriff's Office Brown Santa Program is an organization of volunteers who are trying to do a little to help others this Christmas season. We are a non-profit, charitable organization and are registered with the IRS as tax exempt.
Last year, during the 2012 Christmas season, Brown Santa was able to help over 1900 families including over 15,000 children, and expect to assist over 2000 this season. Brown Santa’s primary purpose is to serve families residing outside of the city limits of Austin; however, they will also service within the City. All clients’ needs are validated. Names are checked for duplication and the Christmas Bureau gives each family’s name out only one time.
Each family receives a complete Christmas dinner along with other necessary food items. Each child in the family (infant to 14 years old) is given 1 main new toy, 1 smaller toy, along with a puzzle, 1 book and a stuffed animal from "Santa".
